Doing Paints The Right Way

Posted by: headm on: March 8, 2016

How to Properly Prepare and Use Industrial Paints and Coatings Industrial paints are majorly made for easy application to ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces. However, different methods compared to the mentioned surfaces earlier of preparation are used when dealing with surfaces such as iron, aluminum, steel, tin and galvanized substrates. And so before use or application of industrial paints, one should know and be familiar as to the different methods be used on different surfaces. One of the easiest metal surface to apply industrial paint is steel. Before start painting and all, the first thing to do is the removal of any foreign matters on the subject’s surface such as grease, rust and any debris. Meaning, the object should be stripped down to its bare metal surface before applying any paint on it. Cleaning the surface can be done with the help of hand or power tools for cleaning, sandblasting or solvent degreasing. You can also use fine grit sandpaper. The use of etching primer can also be of help though it is not really that advisable since the decrease of its popularity is due to its ineffectiveness. As long as a proper preparation was made on the surface that will receive the coating, most of the general purpose industrial primers will exhibit its best quality of adhesion. Sanding the freshly primed surface is some other people’s preference because with doing so, the surface is smoothen giving the topcoat a very smooth finish.
Where To Start with Coatings and More
Unlike steel, aluminum can be difficult sometimes when it comes to applying paint on it. To etch the surface, the best preparation is done with the help of an acid wash or use of a degreaser. After the etching, the paint will then flow into the small crevice made by the wash thus providing maximum adhesion.
How to Achieve Maximum Success with Solutions
On the other hand, acrylics and plastics are generally okay when using industrial coating on them however, their response may differ from certain products because it actually depends on the solvents used in a certain product formulation. So when dealing with these kind of surfaces, it is advisable to use coatings that are water-reducible because this kind of coating does not cause any damage to object being painted with it. It is very important to use a primer when painting acrylics so that there is something that can increase the hide of the finish by its light blocking property. Other acrylics have a semi-transparent property that is mostly noticeable when painted with light and bright colors. To eliminate the possibility of having a filtered light on your acrylics substrate, it is best to apply a thick primer coat that will then give you better adhesion for the topcoat. Have a spot where you can test the effectiveness of the coat that you have when dealing with plastics too.
